Step 1. Become a MaternityWise member. Remain a member in good standing.
This includes initial fee of $45 and a yearly renewal fee of $35.
You will receive a certificate to frame and a membership number to identify yourself.

Step 2. Request a Postpartum Doula Certification Packet.
This will include all of the forms you need to have filled out for certification. Certification Packet is $25.
Step 3. Complete all Certification Requirements including all forms, required reading and evaluations.

Read "Nurturing the Family: The Guide for Postpartum Doulas" By: Jacqueline Kelleher and at least 3 of the other books on the Recommended Reading List for a total of 4 books.
Step 4. Attend a MaternityWise Training Workshop.
A list of training locations near you along with upcoming Training Workshop dates are online for you to choose your Doula Training Workshop from.

If there aren't any Training Workshops scheduled in your area, we will create one for you, and send a trainer to your area. There may be a minimum registration number, so help us promote the training to be sure there are enough paid registrations to run it. Often the minimum is 5 paid students. Please ask your trainer if you have questions about minimums.
Please pay MaternityWise for your Training Workshop, when you register for the date(s) you'll attend. Registration information and payment must be received at least 3 weeks prior to Workshop date.
Training Modules are $275 per student. You may qualify for a number of discounts on this fee.

Step 5: Care for 3 families, with at least 5 hours of in-home support for each family.
Have each mother (and partner, if available) fill out an evaluation form found in your Certification Packet.
Hint: It's often easier to find clients for this part if you volunteer for larger or underprivilged families.
Step 6. Submit your Application for Postpartum Doula Certification along with all required forms and evaluations.
Payment due for Application Review is $75. Please send a check or money order with your application for this amount.
You should allow 2-3 weeks for certification to be processed and approved. You will then receive a certificate to frame, a pin and a card bearing your name, certification type and membership-certification number by mail within 2 weeks of approval.

Postpartum Doula Certification
is only $420 (not taking into account all the discounts you may qualify for) as opposed to other organizations charging over $700. And the other groups don't train you the birth business fundamentals in depth, specifically to start and grow your business on a shoestring budget!
This is a very inexpensive way to begin serving mothers with a solid amount of knowledge as well as the credentials to prove it.
